Welding Positioner
The welding positioner is a special welding auxiliary equipment that can adjust the workpiece to the suitable welding position, making the welding operation more convenient.
- Improve welding quality
- Increase production efficiency
- Expand welding range
- Reduce labor intensity
- Adapt to complex welds
What is a welding positioner?
A welding positioner is a welding auxiliary device designed to adjust and secure weldments. Its primary purpose is to optimize welding operations for laser welding applications.
Key Functions of a Welding Positioner
- Guarantees Welding Quality: Adjusts any weld seam to the most stable and operator-friendly positions (e.g., flat welding, boat welding), minimizing defects like incomplete penetration, porosity, and slag inclusions.
- Boosts Welding Efficiency: Eliminates the need for manual flipping or moving of heavy weldments. Enables automated/semi-automated positioning, cutting down auxiliary time and reducing labor intensity significantly.
- Enhances Operational Safety: Secures weldments stably to prevent shifting or tipping during welding. Keeps operators away from hazardous welding environments, improving overall workplace safety.
Types of welding positioner
Grand Laser supplies various welding positioners (U/L/O/H models) with adjustable positioning for diverse needs.Made of high-strength materials, these offer up to 0.06mm repeatability. Compatible with robotic laser welders (ABB, KUKA & more), they suit electronics/automotive laser welding.
Why choose our laser equipments?

High power, fast processing, stable operation, short cycle.

Provide online technical support and respond quickly to laser equipment problems.

Durable laser equipment, low consumption, cost saving.

High positioning and processing accuracy, easily cope with complex processing needs.
Cost saving and strong practicality
Working in conjunction with a six axis robot, the welding positioner can adjust workpieces to reach areas the robot can’t reach—eliminating the need for expensive multi-axis robots and significantly reducing laser equipment investment.
Safe dual-sided operation
Many models feature a partition, allowing workers to continue operating on one side while the robotic laser welder operates on the other, thereby avoiding laser exposure.
After welding, the 2 axis welding positioner auto-rotates to the other side, enabling seamless, safe human-robot collaboration in laser welding setups.
Details of Common Types of Welding Positioners

It typically comprises a rotating shaft, support frame, and positioning fixture. Driven by a motor, the shaft rotates the workpiece around a single axis for repositioning.

With two perpendicular or angled rotating axes, each motor – driven, the workpiece can rotate bidirectionally. Common types are L – and C – shaped.

Composed of three drive units, the three axes work in tandem for complex spatial motion. It mainly comes in two types: horizontal and vertical three-axis positioners.
Why Welding Positioners Are a Must-Have for Efficient Welding?
The welding positioner’s rotary motion changes the workpiece’s position, allowing the welding robot to perform welding work in an ideal position.
